The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) has published its Scientific Report, which will help shape the next edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA). The DGA are a powerful lever to shape the food system—they influence the food served in schools, childcare centers, and federal nutrition programs like WIC and SNAP, guiding billions of dollars of federal food procurement. They also inform individual eating choices (think of the food pyramid, which is now MyPlate) and the dietary advice health professionals provide.
The DGAC has proposed science-based recommendations that support human and environmental health, but it is not guaranteed that their recommendations will be included in the final DGA as the new administration takes over the writing process. This report informs USDA and HHS in writing the final 2025-2030 DGA and this comment period is the last formal opportunity for the public to inform the content of the 2025-2030 DGA.
By submitting a comment to the DGAC Scientific Report Docket by February 10th, you can help ensure the final Dietary Guidelines reflect our priorities.
CSPI will also be hosting a Resource Hub webinar, including a brief summary of what the DGA are and why they matter, how to submit public comments, and time for Q&A. Register here, and please advertise to anyone in your network who might be interested in learning how they can influence the DGA.
This session will provide an overview of the DGA and their impact on programs like the National School Lunch Program, Thrifty Food Plan, SNAP packages, SNAP-Ed, and the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). We’ll share key advocacy priorities for the final DGA and offer guidance on submitting comments. ANYONE can submit feedback on these critical recommendations, which guide billions of dollars in federal food procurement and shape individual dietary choices.
Whether you’re new to the process or an experienced advocate, this webinar equips you with the knowledge and tools to make your voice heard in developing the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines.
