About the event

Our February featuring Makenzie Lee, who is a 4th year PhD Candidate at Colorado State University. Makenzie will discuss a recent national survey she conducted looking into the US edible flower market from the perspective of farmers' market managers. She will share some key results and then cover some of the edible flower growing research her lab is performing to make local production possible.

Makenzie Lee will be defending her PhD from Colorado State University this summer. Her PhD research focused on edible flower perception and edible flower production methods, including looking at impacts on phytochemical profiles. In particular, she conducted three growing trials looking at indoor vs. outdoor production, hydroponic systems, and a zucchini/marigold intercropping trial partnered with Western SARE. As part of her Western SARE work, she has also conducted a national survey of farmers' market managers to better understand the US edible flower market. Her plans are to continue in academia with the goal of continuing Extension and outreach work.

Our speaker series would happen virtually February 26, 2026 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Zoom links will be distributed to attendees via a reminder email on the Monday before February 26, 2026.
