The EPA Region 8 Mountains and Plains Environmental Justice Grants Hub – part of the EPA’s Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program – invites you to learn about funding opportunities for environmental justice focused projects! This informative webinar will provide an overview of the MAP EJ Grants Hub, including funding opportunities, eligibility criteria, and application processes. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how you can get involved in environmental justice initiatives in the Mountains and Plains region. We look forward to your participation!


Highlights about the Mountains and Plains Environmental Justice (MAP EJ) Grants Hub:

  • The MAP EJ Grants Hub is distributing $40 million over the next three years to fund environmental justice-related projects and programs in EPA Region 8.  

  • The first cycle of applications closes on December 12. The MAP EJ Grants Hub aims to simplify the grantmaking process for communities, so there’s still time to apply. The hub has more information and links to informational webinars in English and Spanish with additional advice for applicants. 

  • Grants range from $150,000 to $350,000, with a few grants of $75,000 for organizations that are capacity-constrained.

  • Cycle 1 of applications opens on October 28 and closes on December 12, 2024.

  • Cycle 2 will be available Spring 2025 and Cycle 3 is planned for Fall 2025

  • Eligible projects include but are not limited to:

    • Air quality and asthma 

    • Water quality and sampling 

    • Improving food access to reduce vehicle miles traveled 

    • Education on illegal dumping and small-scale clean-ups  

    • Emergency preparedness and disaster relief 

  • Qualifying organizations include: Tribes, Native, and nonprofit organizations, local governments, and higher education institutions.

  • Free technical assistance (TA) for potential grantees is also available from MaPTCC, the Mountains and Plains Thriving Communities Collaborative. Possible TA includes providing support with project scoping, budgeting, capacity building, and more.
